Characters should be created by-the-book with the following exceptions:
- New characters can start up to one level lower than the lowest level character in the party. A character created to replace your previous character can start up to one level lower than the level of the character to be replaced.
- New characters receive the maximum gold pieces (called "crowns") allowed for a 1st level character of their class. This applies even if the character is higher than 1st level.
- To generate ability scores, use the "Standard Point Buy" method listed on page 19 of the DMG, spending 28 points.
