d20: Racial Feats (updated 2004/03/09)

The races of Ambar have distinctive cultures with unique abilities called "Racial Feats". For example, Alorns can become expert archers, Kith can learn to speak with animals, Eldar can gain innate spells, and Tengu Alu can fly! Your race has a list of racial feats that you can earn as bonus feats.

Earning Racial Feats

Each time you gain an even level (2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, etc) you have the opportunity to earn a racial feat slot by completing some out-of-game homework. There are many things you could do, but here are a few suggestions:

  1. Enhance the roleplaying side of your character. For example, you could write a description of your character's history, personality, family, homeland, guild, etc. You could alternatively provide a sketch or miniature. The work can be brief or long, just be creative and have fun. This is easy if you enjoy writing, have artistic talent, or like to collect miniatures.
  2. Distinctively roleplay acquisition of the racial feat during play. The character needs to look outside himself and interact with npc's or elements of the campaign, not simply train by himself or with other characters. For example, you could find a trainer, research a mysterious tome you've found, or visit a new part of your homeland in a journey of self-discovery. This method will likely take some game time and effort, but the process can be truly rewarding. This is easy if you enjoy roleplaying.
  3. Describe in detail an organization important to your character race or nation that he has or seeks to join or start, such as the "Knights of the Radiant Sun". The racial feat must of course fit in with your description.

Choosing Racial Feats

When you have earned a racial feat you may generally choose any racial feat from your race. There may also be situations where it is appropriate to take a racial feat from another race, or use a racial feat slot to gain a different benefit such as joining a prestige class. Suggestions for new racial feats are always welcome.
