Dispel Magic (updated 2008/03/04)

Nullify and banish magic.

a.k.a. banish magic, cord severing, dispel magic, disjunction, dismissal

This Magic Action is used to nullify magic, dismissing it entirely. You could break an enchantment placed on a prince by a foul witch, or purge a room of all magic. Like picking a lock, this is an all-or-nothing affair, so you will either succeed in totally and completely banishing the magic or you will fail and have no effect upon that magic.

Action

This action causes an ongoing spell to end if you roll more Successes than that spell rolled when it was cast. Otherwise, you had no effect on the magic. Each attempt costs 1 Drain unless you were the caster.

Note that interacting with ongoing magical effects can be very dangerous. The GM is encouraged to describe a dire outcome if you Fumble your roll. For example, attempting to dispel a curtain of magical fire would burn you severely.

Also note that GMs often place magic effects in adventures that are not intended to be dispelled via any ordinary means, or may not want a specific effect to be removed because it is needed for the story to progress. Players may want to find an in-character way to subtly ask the GM if a particular magic effect looks dispellable.
