The Age of Dreams (80,000 years before HC) (updated 2008/12/08)Wherein the dreams of gods gave birth to the spirit world and the Avatara, and the dreams became a nightmare One might expect that the birth of a world would be naught but myth and speculation, but the Imperial Sages of Harnendor have pieced together a surprising amount of detail of the ancient history of our world. Their sources were ancient Loresongs of the Eldar, runestones of the Dwur, and fire-hardened tablets from Baal ruins--all beings who have existed in our world for millennia before the first men set foot upon the world. The sages believe that Ambar was created at least 80,000 years before the Harnendorian Calendar, and perhaps much longer. The exact timing is not important in comparison with the alternatively wondrous and terrifying chain of events that led to the birth of a world. The Age of Nightmares (60,000 years before HC) (updated 2008/12/08)Emergence of the Deep Ones The Nightmare of the Kha'din The Avatara encountered a vast sea while exploring the Dreamsong. Thus began the Age of Nightmares. The Age of Naming (40,000 years before HC) (updated 2008/11/15)Fortress of Forandol Naming of the Runes Birth of the Lesser Races Wherein the world was made, the races Named, and the Avatara became the Eldar. The new-made world of Ambar was a strange sight to the Avatara. No longer were the land, forests and water ephemeral and made of dreams--they were physical, real, and no longer flowed into new shapes by thought alone. The sights of sound, smell, touch, and taste were all heightened from before. The world was real in a way that it had not been before--as if all that passed before was but an idea--or a dream. Familiar and yet very different from before, the new land both terrified and fascinated the Avatara. The Astral Sea and its nightmares still existed, but on the other side of the dream that once was. The Avatara still dwelled in Ealde, the "Undying Land", a vast valley subcontinent on the roof of the world. From time immemorial the Avatara had shaped cities into fantastic dreamscapes of lofty towers, sweeping spans, and hanging gardens. While their past works still stood, new shapings proved difficult, and the Avatara l [ more... ]
The Age of Shattered Lands (20,000 before HC)The Breaking (20,000 years before) The Battlesong Wars (15,000 years ... The Battle of the Thousandfold Curses ... Wherein the world was broken by the Kha'din, Ealde lost, and the Eldar fled to lands unknown. This age began and ended with cataclysmic events that shook the lands, tore the skies, and broke the ancient peoples of Ambar. The Nameless Old Ones also known as the Kha'din invaded our world and warred for ten thousand years before being finally defeated. While some few of the ancient horrors remain, this age has passed and cannot come again. The Age of the Urumaiar (10,000 before HC)The Draconian Empire (10,000 years ... The Necroalchemical Empire of Arh'Tolth ... The Liche Queen (2,700 years before HC) The Lothian Kingdoms (2,500 years ... The Necrodraconic Wars (2,000 years ... After the defeat of the Nameless Old Ones, a host of Dragons hunted the foul Wyrms that had as yet eluded destruction. The Draconian Empire of the Baal ruled the lands around the Dragon Sea and left an indelible footprint. It is from this time that the Dragon Isles take their name. The Age of Light (1 - 300 HC)001 - Harnendor, the Southmaren Empire 152 - The Grand Canal of Mrmym 153 - The Glittering Road of Xohm 215 - Founding of Aegis and Alglondor "Harnendor is the light." The first year of the Harnendorian Calendar (HC) marks the formation of the "Southmaren Empire, and the transition from mankind's dark, lawless past to a better future. Histories and records have been kept in the royal Harnendorian libraries ever since. It is often said that human civilization was born in the formation of Harnendor. Previously, tribal warlords carved empires with their blades, ruling by strength alone, but these lasted only as long as the warlord lived. The Avathars of the East had built a vast "Necroalchemical Empire" thousands of years earlier, but it only lasted as long as its founder. "Dark times have fallen upon us all." The empires of the previous age fell overnight. Aegis fell during the "Vampire Wars", the "Southmaren Empire" fell to the Goblyns, and the "Draconian Empire" collapsed within while the "Great Dragon" slept. Ambar plunged into a dark age that lasted a hundred years after the fall of the "Southmaren Empire". The Age of Rebirth (800 - 870 HC) (updated 2003/06/30)803 - Rise of Kitania 860 - Si'Anwon Keep 862 - Kaeden in Avernus 864 - Beginnings of the Great Southern ... 864 - Scourge of Tavik 865 - Blue Whinnis Goblyn War 865 - Reclaiming of Na'Ututhra 865 - Redemption of Thoth 865 - The Battle of Five Armies "Great things are afoot." Ambar has recently emerged from the shadows and is experiencing a time of rebirth. This is an age in which artistic, social, scientific, and political have begun to turn in new directions. While future historians will decide upon the official name for our current Age, scholars are heralding it as one of rebirth and triumph. Great things are afoot. Aegis is securely protected by the "Sceptre of Light", and the young kingdom of Kitania is reclaiming southern regions long lost to the darkness. The last vestiges of necromancy are being cleansed, and guardian dragons are being restored to the Dragon Isles. Only time will tell whether these changes stir up ancient evils or establish a new reign of prosperity. |
