Dorthonien (The Land of Pines) (updated 2009/09/13)Alqualonde Illdmyrr 873, The Dorthonien Tree Blight
Dorthonien, the "Land of Pines", is an ancient and vast rainforest on the coast of the Dragon Sea. Many Dorthons dwell within the forest in the Ithil'Rhi style, either building homes in the tree canopy or traveling in encampments (Estolad) of colorful silk pavilions. Dorthonien also has several cities, which cling to the coast for ease of trade, as well as using the rainforests as a buffer from Nan-Avathar. The men of Dorthonien once bowed to the Harnendor Empire. Many generations paid tribute to the Emperor, but eventually the legions were withdrawn and the Alorns now rule themselves. Capital: Alqualonde Population: 200,000 (Dorthon Alorns 75%, Alorns, 20%, Eldar 5%) Government: Feudal Religions: Melelion Trade: Dorthons trade hardwoods and other fruits of the forest as the mainstays of their economy. AlqualondeAlqualonde is the capitol of Dorthonien, a large seaport on the Dragon Sea. The city is famed for its natural defenses of forest and sheltered coves, as well as the swan-carved ships that sail forth to every port in Ambar. Illdmyrr872 - House Cennyth visits Illdmyrr The hidden towers of Illdmyrr sprout from the mountain rocks at the source of the Singing River in the Ashenrise Mountains. Not only is this a defensible location, but water from the magical river aids in the magical experiments of the mysterious magi who dwell there. This small stronghold overlooks wide forested valleys and has proven a valuable refuge for Eldar since the fall of Rhi'Annost. Many of its inhabitants were powerful Eldar adventurers who fought against the Kurgan assassins sent to slay the few elves remaining in the elven court. Of note were Kinesthe Redflower, Morganese Nightgray, and Eluchil Iceblade. Many of these valiant heroes perished while attempting to defeat the ancient necromancer lord Mormegil "Black Sword". 873, The Dorthonien Tree Blight (updated 2008/02/24)The ancient forest giants of Dorthonien are under attack by a plague of massive scale. Affected trees show little sign until the infection is well underway. The first obvious signs are bone-white vines trailing down the tree. Once the vines enter the ground they entwine around the roots of the tree, choking off the supply of nutrients, and effectively strangling the tree. Over time the vines increase in girth, becoming the trunks of bone-white trees with wood as hard as iron. As the tree dies its wood rots, leaving a tree of dense white bone. The evilly-aspected trees seem attract all manner of ill-omened vermin, ravens, and bats that feed on the fig-like fruit of the trees. [ more... ] |
